Citizens Raise Issues on Lowering Flags

Some Dyersville citizens were concerned that city flags were not lowered at half staff on Friday when Governor Branstad issued this mandatory action after a POW’s remains were found 69 years after his death. Council member Teresa Bockenstedt and Mayor Al Haas both received complaints from citizens who were upset that this action was not seen through by city administration.

City Administrator Mick Michel stated that “Yes, City Hall dropped the ball on this one. City Hall and Public Works employees are short staffed so it is difficult for us to always make sure this action is completed. We used to have a volunteer group who did this service for us and I urge that we try to find volunteers to take over this action moving forward.”

If anyone is interested in managing lowering city flags when required, please contact City Hall or your Ward Representative.
